For 20 years and counting, Sō Percussion has redefined chamber music for the 21st century through an “exhilarating blend of precision and anarchy, rigor and bedlam” (New Yorker). They are celebrated by audiences and presenters for a dazzling range of work: for live performances in which “telepathic powers of communication” (New York Times) bring to life the vibrant percussion repertoire; for an extravagant array of collaborations in classical music, pop, indie rock, contemporary dance, and theater; and for their work in education and community, creating opportunities and platforms for music and artists that explore the immense possibility of art in our time.

The collaboration draws on decades of collective experience that pulls together influences like John Cage, Meredith Monk, Bobby McFerrin, and a huge range of Hip Hop and House music artists.

Amid the Noise

Jason Treuting's Amid The Noise is a communal music-making project that can occur with a flexible number of musicians in almost any combination. Like Terry Riley's In C, this work maintains its identity and integrity through wildly different realizations.

Steve Reich's "Drumming"

3 day Residency
Drumming is one of the core works that formed Sō Percussion. For many years, through three recordings and dozens of performances, it has shaped our perspective and our practice. We often visit music schools to teach Drumming in a residency, where five or more percussionists join us to stage the entire 75-minute work.
